Process & Prices

Transforming your garden and bringing it to life to create a heart-warming and beautiful space for both yourself and wildlife could actually be a lot easier and more affordable than you think. The process and prices stated below are a guide that may help you realise what is possible, however, I will always quote and confirm you are happy with all prices before proceeding with any jobs.

Step 1: Garden Consultation (Design Ideas or Assessment & Enhancing)

When you’re unsure of what you want and don’t have an over-arching plan to work to, a lot of money can be easily wasted. I will spend an hour and a half with you looking at your garden, offering ideas and advice, so you then have a plan to start to work towards. I can offer two different types of Garden Consultation.

Design Ideas Garden Consultation

For when you have a garden that could be considered a blank canvas or if you are wanting a re-design to an existing garden, whether that includes incorporating existing parts of the garden already, or coming up with new designs. After meeting and discussing, I will go away and draw up three simple pencil line drawings to scale, with ideas on how to design the whole layout of your garden.  Once you have chosen which one you like, or if you want anything tweaked, a final layout plan is drawn, and this is usually then enough for landscapers to do any work if needed.

Step 2: Landscaping or Preparation Work

I aim to make the whole process of developing your garden as enjoyable and affordable as possible, and whilst my knowledge and skill set lies with plants and how to create a garden, it unfortunately does not extend to hard landscaping. However, there are several reliable, good quality landscapers that I can recommend in order to get this stage of the garden work done and ready for planting. Quoting for this work would be done directly with the landscapers themselves.

Assessment & Enhancing Garden Consultation

For when you already have existing plants and borders and are not looking necessarily for wholesale changes, just tweaking and enhancing what you already have. After discussing what may be best, I will then go away and put together a simple follow-up report, 2-3 pages long, with thoughts and ideas of what we have just discussed and what will help to get the garden to how you would like it.

IP9 Addresses - £100.00

IP1, IP2, IP3, IP4, IP5, IP8, IP10, IP11, CO11 Addresses - £110.00

IP6, IP7, IP12, IP13, CO7, CO12, CO13, CO14 Addresses - £125.00

Step 3: Bespoke Planting Plan & Maintenance Plan

With the preparation work done and borders now prepared, it's time for the plants! A lot of money can be easily wasted on buying plants that aren’t right for the conditions your garden has to offer, with too many or too few plants being bought to fill the required space as well. Working at Beth Chatto Gardens for over 15 years, means whilst my plans are simply drawn, they contain beautiful planting combinations that will offer colour and interest all year round, as well as being the right plants to thrive in your garden's conditions. You will find that investing in a bespoke hand-drawn planting plan with accompanying plant maintenance plan is definitely worth it for the short, medium and long-term future of your garden.

£95.00 + £5.00 per square metre

(e.g. 20m² of borders = £195.00)

Step 4: Plant Sourcing

After receiving your planting plan and maintenance plan, the process of sourcing all of the required plants can be a daunting one. I can use my knowledge and network of different plant nurseries to source the plants for you at competitive prices and deliver them straight to your garden, ready for planting.

Plants can obviously vary a lot in price depending on whether they are trees, shrubs, perennials, bulbs, bare-root hedging etc. and the availability can depend on the time of year. If you would like me to source the plants for you then it is always best to let me know as soon as possible to ensure the best chance of getting everything needed.

I will email a breakdown of all the plants in the plan and their costs, but as a rough guide for budgeting purposes, it is best to allow approximately £30-£35 per square metre.

Step 5: Planting Up Borders

Step 6: Follow-Up Help & Advice

I take great pride in knowing that the gardens and planting schemes I help with establish well and flourish for years to come, so I will always be on hand by phone or email with any help or advice that’s needed to continue the development of your garden.

I always say that when a garden is planted up, it’s not finished – it has just started! And as it continually grows and develops you may find you want to add more bulbs for extra early season colour or maybe experiment with annuals or biennials. Whatever your query, question or concern, please feel free to get in touch and we can work out the best plan of action.

If you would like to have the confidence in knowing that your new plants have been planted in the correct position and in the proper way, then I can plant up your new borders for you too. I can advise when would be the best time to plant up your borders, whether you need additional compost or soil improvement and provide advice on the immediate aftercare to help them establish well.

Trees - from £15.00 per plant (depending on size)

Shrubs & Climbers - from £3.00 per plant (depending on size)

Perennials, Grasses & Ferns - £1.75 per plant

Potted Bulbs - £1.25 per plant

Dry Bulbs - £1.00 per bulb (or grouped bulbs)

Alternatively, if you would like to plant them yourself, and would just like me to deliver the plants and stand them out in position, then this is charged at £0.25 per plant.

*A minimum of 30 plants needing to be planted in order to qualify for these prices - a quote for the total will be worked out before.
